New way of scam on Upwork — REVELATION
First part of this topic you can find here — medium.com/...cam-on-upwork-be715e617ee
As we understood our first story about “Frank from New York” was pretty interesting for you, so here is our sequel for it with more details.
When you actually get this kind of proposal you don’t really think about scam because everything is going to be through Upwork and it seems like you are good and eventually after investing a little bit of money to buy Bitcoins you will get your $$$ back because the client used different accounts and all of them are verified.
Here is the first point of trust. How do you verify your account? Easy. Just make a quick 1$ transaction and as long as your card works — boom — you are verified and ready to fool your “trustworthy employees”.
Firstly, they create new accounts with totally different tasks saying it should be like this because our project is so massive, it is funded by the government, our client wants to keep it silent, etc. Isn’t it a sign to stop?
Yes, one of them. You start working on one project but keep tracking hours for a project like Python, Social App, Designer services... What about Tutor Temple Project?
They don’t really pay attention to it, it doesn’t bother them as the only thing they need is Bitcoin. So after two weeks of hard work and, of course, Bitcoin transactions when it is time to get your money — you get a complaint about what a bad guy you are as they wanted Python developer and you submitted your tasks in ASP.NET. Unfortunately, as long as your client is not satisfied with your services you get nothing. You can’t prove anything as Frank doesn’t want to communicate through Upwork because it may cause some issues for them.
What we wanted to do — is to make him answer us on Upwork that it is really him because we wanted to send those proofs to crush him. After a while he did.
And you know what? It is actually not the first case of such scam as we found one more story of a desperate guy who believed them:

No wonder, they are pretty good at gaining people’s trust as they are well prepared. Other guys are already trapped... And yes, it is exactly that project — $78 per hour just as from project documentation, remember? Also, after checking profiles of Frank’s victims we noticed that all of them are from Ukraine, so Ukrainian developers stay away from these Franks.
That really bothered us, so we decided to contact Upwork and tell them about such a situation but we received this:
Well, we can see as the action is taken — people are getting trapped and begin losing their money. Hopefully, it’s just for now and later on “action will be taken” for sure.
So guys, as you can see, no one is protected even Upwork won’t protect you in such situation as clients are more important for them because they pay money not you. Stay away from scam and receive only cool confirmed proposals from guys who won’t fool you.
Peace!
